OMG. Some folks just make it TOO easy to be made fun of. And in the most unlikely places. Take this example, for example. I wanted to know what new mower blades would cost for my mower as a part of evaluating the worth of sharpening over just buying new ones. And so I zipped over to Amazon and asked to see the blades. This is what came up:

What does the casual observer note? First, that the included items are a pair of green painted blades. Blades. Not blades and a rubber ducky and not blades plus a torque wrench. Just … blades. And just to be suuuuper clear, they even took the time to write (highlighted by me for emphasis) “Nuts and bolts not included”.

Nuts aren’t included but they’re sure present and accounted for in the comments. Like these, picked from the first page:

J Cap feels it necessary to actually TITLE his comment with “Missing bolts” and then state “Blades come without the necessary bolts”.

As I stated above - SAY WHAT?! They SHOW “no bolts”, they SAY “no bolts”. Maybe … there aren’t any bolts!

And I have to ask - why would there be? The bolts are already on the lawnmower, holding on the old blades. The drill for replacing said blades is “remove bolts, take off old blades, put on new blades, replace bolts”. Ta da! Why in the world would I want duplicate bolts?

Amazingly, old J Cap wasn’t the only one to feel that they needed to note this lack. This is pretty much the same as someone commenting on a page for AA batteries that “The batteries come without the necessary cover to keep them in the radio”. Duh.

And the second guy? Larry L. Patterson? His title is “SAME as the OEM”. Or in non-acronym form “SAME as the Original Equipment Manufacturer”. That rates a “HUH?!” from me. EGO IS the original equipment manufacturer. So of course it’s the same. Sort of like reviewing your purchase of a new Stingray and commenting “Same as the Stingray made by Chevrolet”. Yeah … that’s not surprising.

It’s not just Amazon that’s working overtime to convince me the population is under severe Darwinian pressure and losing the fight. Every morning when I walk around my block I see a particular homeowner’s irrigation system in operation. Looks just like this:
