Ah, verdant Spring has sprung. Gentle April showers that lead to fragrant flowers. Here’s one of those showers that fell gently from the sky upon us yesterday:
Did a bit of a number on our newly planted thuja:
Looks like they’re slain on the field of battle! Javelins of the enemy all around. Poor guys.
But a little judicious snow removal and some heat from the sun and they shook off the attack like true Spartans!
Yes, we’ve survived the late snowpocalypse. But does that mean winter has really given up? Considering that I took up all my snow poles a few weeks ago, then had to put them back, then took them up again, and THEN had to put them in again … I think I’ll wait a bit until opining definitively on that score. Because if it wants to snow …
But the weather sure has been funny lately. And speaking of funny, I thought I’d offer some free “how to think like a humorist” advice. I was feel under the weather due to one of the current cold/flu/plagues and a friend sent me a text wishing me well:
Isn’t that a nice sentiment? A generous and thoughtful thing to say? Of course it is. And any normal person would take it as such.
But you know at this point that humorists aren’t normal. They look for the chink in the armor of the usual, they strive to seek a well placed banana skin beneath the heel of the poor humdrum guy whose life just cries out for some unexpected excitement.
No, just as Roger Rabbit wouldn’t remove his handcuffs until it was funny, so too does a humorist’s brain routinely fail to process information according to normal lines.
And thus, what snapped into my head upon reading those lines wasn’t a sense of “awwwwww” but rather … it should have been written thusly:
Now THAT’S the way to send good wishes!
And speaking of good wishes, there’s nothing luckier than a good wish frog, especially one with a spectral penumbra. I just happened to glance up at the fireplace and noted the lucky happenstance of a sunbeam bouncing through the glass around my front door and breaking into its constituent parts. Just like we saw last week with Isaac Newton!
Not only that, but the complex light path, combined with the pre-existing colours of Herr Froggie AND the bonus of a neato shadow effect all combined to create an image as sublime as it is uplifting:
Well, as I said, I’ve been a bit taken up with clawing my way back to a state of non-deathsdoorism and so I think I’ll call time on this week’s Letter and hand it over to Nicky.
Nickyitis
As always - I’d love to hear what you think!
P.S. That froggy rainbow is gorgeous! The bottom part under the frog shadow looks like a fish. 🐠
See, Crowden? You should have stayed in California. No snow here (except in the mountains) though surprising amounts of rain, but once again the sun doth shine, the skies are blue and the ocean waves beckon. A few fallen trees and leaky roofs mar this perfect picture, but who’s complaining? Keep waking up and making us laugh! Regards to the missus.
